No. 1.

Sir Edward Grey to Sir J. Jordan.

Foreign Office, October 24, 1908.

CANTON-KOWLOON Railway. The British and Chinese Corporation are of opinion that Jeme's appointment should not be contested, provided that the powers and responsibility of the Engineer-in-chief as defined in Article 6 of the Loan Agreement are left unaffected. The Corporation have telegraphed to Hong Kong to this effect, and I concur in their view. You should endeavour to secure the maintenance of the terms of the Loan Agreement.
